The story...
Elephant calves have much to learn when they arrive on this earth. They are carefully nurtured by their greater family and mothers can depend on many helpers who act like a very well organised group of nannies to look after the young of the herd. During their first few months of life a little elephant does not know how to use their trunks at all. It is the most endearing sight to witness when you see a baby elephant swinging its trunk to and fro not knowing what to do with it. Gradually as they grow older they will start using the trunk with more and more control until eventually they are able to use their trunk as the older elephant. This little elephant was midway in this learning process and as he raised his trunk and it curled into the air I could almost see the triumph in his face that he had managed to perform this feat for possibly the first time.
